چکیده

This paper discusses the use of Wang Tiles for image and texture generation as originally presented in Cohen et al. , 2003. Creating large expanses of nonperiodic texture, point distributions or geometry can be efficiently done at runtime by constructing a tiling of the plane using a small set of Wang tiles. Wang Tiles are squares whose edges are each assigned a color. The method involves filling a small set of Wang Tiles with texture, Poisson point distributions or geometry and non-periodically tiling the plane to stochastically create a continuous representation. For a tiling to be valid, all shared edges between tiles need to have matching colors. An algorithm for runtime generation of such valid tilings is presented. Creating the tiles so that tiles with matching edge colors have textures that fit together is also discussed, as well as usage of an extended notion of Wang Tiles with colored corners that allows discrete objects to overlap tile corners and the creation of inhomogeneous textures. The Wang Tiles technique is also put into perspective through a short introduction to previous methods for texture synthesis and the modeling of complex 3D scenes. The main differences between using Wang Tiles and other techniques are also discussed.

Non-Periodic Corner Tilings in Computer Graphics

Rendering computer-generated images is both memory and runtime intensive. This is particularly true in realtime computer graphics where large amounts of content have to be produced very quickly and from limited data. Tile-based methods offer a solution to this problem by generating large portions of a specific content out of a much smaller data set of tiles. This dissertation investigates the u...

Efficient texture synthesis using strict Wang Tiles

Wang Tiles are constructed from four texture samples, arranged so they can always match a choice of other tiles at two edges. Because they are precomputed, Wang Tiles are a very efficient way to generate textures on the fly. But matching problems occur within tiles and at the corners of adjacent tiles. By replacing the edge-matching texture samples with a new sample in the center of the tile, a...

New Pseudo-CT Generation Approach from Magnetic Resonance Imaging using a Local Texture Descriptor

Background: One of the challenges of PET/MRI combined systems is to derive an attenuation map to correct the PET image. For that, the pseudo-CT image could be used to correct the attenuation. Until now, most existing scientific researches construct this pseudo-CT image using the registration techniques. However, these techniques suffer from the local minima of the non-rigid deformation energy f...

Content Based Image Retrieval based on Color, Texture and Shape features using Image and its complement

Color, texture and shape information have been the primitive image descriptors in content based image retrieval systems. This paper presents a novel framework for combining all the three i.e. color, texture and shape information, and achieve higher retrieval efficiency using image and its complement. The image and its complement are partitioned into non-overlapping tiles of equal size. The feat...

Te xture On Demand

Te xture On Demand (TOD) is a technique for organizing large amounts of stored texture data in disk files and accessing it efficiently. Simply reading entire texture images into memory is not a good solution for real memory systems or for virtual memory systems. Te xture data should be read from disk files only on demand. In the TOD technique, each texture image is stored as a sequence of fixed...
